Hugh Hefner was laid to rest next to Marilyn Monroe, as he wished, on Saturday (Sept. 30) after passing away on Wednesday night (Sept. 27) aged 91, according to TMZ. Hefner’s extremely private funeral and memorial service was held in Los Angeles at the Westwood Village Memorial Park.
Hefner’s four children and widow, Crystal Harris, were reportedly all in attendance. Hefner, founder of iconic brand Playboy and all its entities, died from natural causes at his famous home, The Playboy Mansion.
Hefner had purchased a crypt beside Monroe — Playboy Magazine’s first-ever cover girl — all the way back in 1992 for a reported $75,000, even though the two had never even met in person. In 2009, Hefner told The Los Angeles Times, “I’m a believer in things symbolic. Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.”
