Billy Joel’s upcoming return to the concert stage (Billboard.biz, Nov. 21) continues to be greeted enthusiastically, as evidenced by more huge on-sales last weekend.
Joel added and sold out fourth and fifth shows at Madison Square in New York, and will add a sixth to go on sale Saturday. His current run at the Garden includes dates Jan. 23, 26, Feb. 2, 9 and 11, and now Feb. 16.
Additionally, Joel has sold out three dates at Philadelphia’s Wachovia Center (Feb. 14, March 7, 13), and will add a fourth for March 20 to go up next week. He also sold out Boston’s TD BankNorth Center for Jan. 19 and 30 and might add a third; Hartford (Conn.) Civic Center for March 28 and added March 10; Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., for Jan. 7 and added Jan. 15, and American West Arena in Phoenix for April 3.
Joel has also booked a March 25 date at the 50,000-seat Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., which has not hosted a concert since Joel played there with Elton John in 2001. Tickets for the Joel date will be priced at $39.50, the same price as when he played last played solo there in 1998. A sellout at the Carrier Dome would be Joel’s sixth in the building, breaking a current tie with the Rolling Stones for most sellouts in Carrier Dome history.
