Rihanna has landed her third cover on Vogue, and this time, she has some words of wisdom to offer when it comes to dressing like her.
In the glossy’s March issue, the pop star — who is interviewed by writer Plum Sykes, while dressing her up in Alexander Wang and Adam Selman (Rihanna’s costume designer) — says that men’s clothes are closet staples, having worn menswear pieces at a young age.

“When I was thirteen or fourteen, I didn’t want to wear what my mom wanted me to wear. I was very much a boy in my style, my demeanor. All my friends were guys. I loved things that boys did. I loved being easy with my clothes,” says the “Diamonds” singer, who launched her final River Island collection last November.
As far as how Rihanna established her signature look — heels, tees and sweatpants — she explains that it began backstage.
“It all started in dance rehearsal,” the “Styled to Rock” producer tells Vogue. “When you’re on tour, you go to rehearse wearing sweats and sneaks. Then you practice your song in the heels you are going to wear that night. I realized, Wow, that looks cool! I have a friend who is literally searching for cool T-shirts for me all the time because I’m obsessed.”
Known for her risque style, the singer had this fashion knowledge to offer: “If I’m wearing a top, I don’t wear a bra. If I’m wearing a bra, I just wear a bra.”
And now, you know.
