Up-and-coming U.K. rock acts Maximo Park, Arctic Monkeys, We Are Scientists and Mystery Jets will team up for the 2006 ShockWaves NME Awards Tour, which will begin Jan. 24 in Dublin. Last year’s trek was headlined by the Killers; previous outings have featured Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs.
Maximo Park is touring in support of its Warp debut, “A Certain Trigger,” which has spawned four top 20 hits on the U.K. singles chart: “Graffiti,” “Apply Some Pressure,” “A Certain Trigger” and “Going Missing.” Before the NME tour, the group will be on the road in the United Kingdom through a Dec. 11 show in London.
Arctic Monkeys recently played a series of lavishly praised live gigs in North America and has been the subject of overwhelming hype in the United Kingdom, despite having yet to release a full-length album. With its debut due for release via Domino in February, a new single, “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor,” will arrive Jan. 18 U.K. release.
