Hot Tours: Juan Gabriel, Bryan Adams, Van Halen

Latin superstar Juan Gabriel tops the weekly Hot Tours rankings with $3.4 million in box office grosses reported from multiple concerts at Mexico City’s 9,600-seat Auditorio Nacional. With sellout crowds at all performances, a total of 47,394 tickets were sold for the five-show run on Feb. 14-15 and 17-19 celebrating the singer’s 40-year career. This is the second highest gross reported for Gabriel at the venue since Billboard began tracking concert Boxscores in the early 1990’s. The top gross was $7.6 million from a 20-show engagement in September and October of 2008 attended by more than 176,000 fans.

Bryan Adams scores a second place slot on the Hot Tours tally with ticket sales totals from four arenas, one in Europe and three in Canada. The first reported concert was a March 20 performance at Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Belgium, one stop on a 10-city trek through Europe during the month of March. Adams will return to Europe for another tour leg during the summer. Also included in this week’s recap are the first three venues on his three-month tour through Canada that kicked off in April. The Canadian leg is the first coast-to-coast tour through the singer’s home country in 20 years. The first show was on April 11 at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland where he played two nights with 11,357 fans in attendance for both performances. Concerts followed in Prince Edward Island on April 14 at Credit Union Place in Summerside and in Nova Scotia the following evening at Halifax Metro Centre.

Veteran rock band Van Halen makes its first appearance of the year on the Hot Tours chart, landing at No. 3 with gross and attendance totals reported from three venues on its 2012 North American tour. With box office revenue topping $2.2 million, a combined total of 23,460 tickets were sold at Amway Center in Orlando on April 12, Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville on April 16 and Atlanta’s Philips Arena on April 19. The tour follows the February release of the band’s latest album, “A Different Kind of Truth” featuring David Lee Roth reunited with Eddie and Alex Van Halen along with new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen.
