‘Friends’ With BenefitsWarner Bros. this week releases the Simon and Garfunkel concert document “Old Friends: Live on Stage, chronicling the pair’s triumphant 2003 reunion tour. The project will be available as a stand-alone DVD, a double-CD set and a deluxe edition with both the DVD and CDs.
The 26-track “Old Friends” was recorded at the end of the first leg of the trek, which grossed approximately $75 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. The track list includes such classics as “Scarborough Fair,” “The Sound of Silence” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” plus the pre S&G single “Hey Schoolgirl” (as Tom And Jerry) and the pair’s 1975 reunion single “My Little Town.”
Also reproduced are the Everly Brothers’ mid-set performances of “Wake Up Little Susie,” “All I Have To Do Is Dream” and “Bye Bye Love” with Simon and Garfunkel.
The DVD includes a pair of tantalizing extras, including a new Simon and Garfunkel audio track “Citizen of the Planet,” originally written for Simon’s 1983 solo album, “Hearts and Bones.” Also featured is previously unreleased footage from the 1969 TV special “Songs of America,” hosted by actor Charles Grodin.
