The Hold Steady, the Neville Brothers, KRS-One, Richard Thompson and Joan Osborne are among the artists confirmed to perform as part of the 29th Celebrate Brooklyn free concert series, to be held throughout the summer in Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Prospect Park. Starbucks has signed on as the event’s first-ever presenting sponsor.
In addition, Manu Chao & Radio Bemba Sound System (June 26-27) and Ani DiFranco (July 18) will play concerts to benefit Celebrate Brooklyn’s ongoing existence.
The Neville Brothers will open the season with a June 14 show. Other highlights include Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys (June 22), the Stills with Sam Roberts Band and Malajube (June 30), the Hold Steady with the Big Sleep and the Teenage Prayers (Aug. 9) and an African Festival with Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars, Sekouba Bambino and others (Aug. 11).
In addition, a variety of film, dance and collaborative presentations are on tap, including Alloy Orchestra providing the live score to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1929 silent film “Blackmail” (July 19) and Steven Bernstein and the Millennial Territory Orchestra’s live scores for several Laurel & Hardy films (July 27).
