An audience of 1,400 members of the music, media and sports industries raised £602,000 ($1.1 million) for the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy charity at the 10th annual HMV Football Extravaganza, held last night (March 29) in London.
The £300 ($563) per-head HMV gala dinner took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The monies raised were generated from ticket sales, a raffle and an auction on the night. Nordoff-Robbins is the designated charity for all sectors of the U.K. music industry.
Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, considered the worldÕs wealthiest soccer club by revenues, was the evening’s lifetime achievement honoree, as chosen by a committee headed by HMV Group COO Brian McLaughlin.
The event has raised more than £2.6 million ($4.9 million) since 1996.
