Rock band Hedley, rapper Belly, and punksters illScarlett are among the leading Canadian nominees for the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards, the station has announced.
The award show, which usually features a host of international acts and live performances, will be broadcast on June 15.
Hedley, from British Columbia, leads the nominations with six, including best video and best cinematography. Other nominated acts include Feist for best video, Montreal’s Simple Plan for best video and Toronto-based Bedouin Soundclash for best independent video.
Other nominated acts include City and Colour, Feist, Sam Roberts, as well as international acts including Fall Out Boy, Flo Rida, Kanye West, Rihanna, and Timbaland.
“Directors and artists have found new, creative ways to push the edge of the envelope in making music videos,” David Kines, senior VP at CTV, which owns MuchMusic, said in a statement. “And at the MMVAs, we celebrate the excellence of these nominees the MuchMusic way – by throwing the best party in the country.”
Performers for the awards will be announced next week.
