With Adult Swim’s Squidbillies back for its eighth season, a list of notable musicians are lending their talent to the animated series’ theme song. After Dwight Yoakum gave it a real nice honky tonk rendition last week, now Todd Rundgren has his go, delivering a demented, glitched-up treatment that’s pretty epic.
Rundgren, who’s known best for pop songs such as “Hello It’s Me,” “I Saw the Light” and “Bang the Drum All Day”, is well versed in more abstract songwriting and experimental production like we get here.

Squidbillies has a history of getting well-known artists to lend their voices to the show, which follows the Cuyler family of squids living in Georgia. Previous seasons benefitted from contributions by George Jones, Alabama Shakes, Lambchop, Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, and Billy Joe Shaver. Neko Case also lent her skills to the show’s season premiere on Sept. 21.
Squidbillies airs Sundays at 11:45 pm on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
