Their platinum debut album is still on the ascent, but the members of Oklahoma’s slow-building rock act Hinder is already devoting thought to the next album. The big issue, according to guitarist Joe “Blower” Garvey, is getting time to start laying down some tracks.
The quintet, whose “Extreme Behavior” came out in September 2005 and is now No. 6 in its 39th week on The Billboard 200, has dates booked into January and plans to be on the road well into the summer.
“Hopefully in August I think we’re gonna go back in the studio,” says Garvey, who co-founded the band in 2001 with Central Oklahoma University classmate and drummer Cody Hanson and frontman Austin Winkler. “We’ve got some ideas — nothing complete yet, but choruses, verses here and there, lyrics on paper and everything. We hope by January to start getting some full songs together and maybe start adding them into our live show to see what everybody thinks.”
Garvey says Hinder will probably record the next album in Los Angeles and also hopes “to have a little more time to write the next album.”
There’s still plenty of life in “Extreme Behavior,” however. The album’s third single, “How Long,” was just released as the follow-up to the breakthrough smash “Lips of an Angel,” and Garvey says “Better Than Me” is slated to come out in early 2007.
The group already knows that “there’s definitely a lot of pressure for this next album,” but Garvey says he and his bandmates are taking it in stride. “It’s all in good fun, y’know?,” he says. “We’re not gonna be changing anything. We’re just having a good time and writing as we go. It’s definitely a good problem to have.”
