Tuesday (Sept. 12) night’s Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief Telethon wrapped with an all-star country jam in San Antonio, Texas, including Chris Stapleton, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Miranda Lambert and George Strait performing Straight’s ode to the Lone Star state, “Texas.”
Matthew McConaughey introduced the segment at the city’s beautiful Majestic Theatre, noting that the live television event had bounced around across America from Los Angeles to New York to Nashville, but this was the first time the cameras cut to the state most impacted from Hurricane Harvey. McConaughey said now direction is what we can offer victims of Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
“We can’t bring back what they lost, but we can help them know where to take the next step and provide some solid footing for them to place the next foot — a path to stability, to a place where they can rebuild,” he said. “This is what they need and this is what we can give them.”
The five country all stars took turns singing the verses before teaming up and hitting the chorus in unison.
Of the performers, all but Stapleton are from Texas.
Following, “Texas,” the performers segued into Strait’s “I Believe,” ending the telethon’s musical segments with a downtempo but inspirational tone.
