Less than a year ago, Halsey was playing modestly sized clubs when she came through New York City — on Aug. 13, 2016, the New Jersey native will play Madison Square Garden. Today, Billboard can exclusively reveal that Halsey has sold out the iconic venue in less than three weeks.
In terms of numbers, that’s big. As recently as April, she was playing a 400 capacity club in NYC; now, she’s sold-out the 15,000 seat arena. The Halsey era has officially arrived.
“The fact that my fans made this happen is groundbreaking,” Halsey tells Billboard. “This is seriously unbelievable. Like literally unbelievable. I don’t believe it — someone show me the proof.”
Halsey Covers Justin Bieber, The Weeknd in Impressive Mashup
Her debut album, Badlands, dropped 11 weeks ago and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. When she hits MSG next year, she’ll be wrapping her headlining Badlands world tour. Prior to that, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter is hitting the road with one of her all-time favorite artists, The Weeknd, for his Madness Fall Tour.
Today marks another first for Halsey: Her first collaboration with another artist is out, and it’s a big one. She appears on Justin Bieber‘s just-dropped comeback album, Purpose, on the Skrillex-produced collab “The Feeling.” Bieber and Halsey will take the stage for the first time together next week when she joins the international pop star for his Wednesday appearance on the Today show (Nov. 18), so stay tuned for that.
The night before her Today show appearance, Halsey will perform at the Museum of Modern Art’s 2015 Film Benefit presented by CHANEL, which will honor Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett. The benefit raises money for the acquisition and preservation of great film works, as well as funding to support upcoming film exhibitions at MoMA.
Halsey was first heard on SIRIUS XM Hits 1 with “Ghost” off her self-released Room 93 EP. After meeting Halsey at a show, DJ/APD Mikey Piff listened to “Ghost” and immediately put it on heavy rotation before Halsey was even signed to a label.
