Veteran performer Olivia Newton-John has recorded a studio album specifically for sale as part of a Hallmark program in support of breast cancer awareness month. “Stronger Than Before” will be available Sept. 1-Oct. 31 exclusively through Hallmark Gold Crown stores. The CD will retail for $9.95, with two dollars from each sale benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Newton-John, a 13-year breast cancer survivor and advocate, selected the disc’s 10 tracks for how each relates to the emotions cancer patients and their families experience. “That’s All I Know for Sure” was written by the artist for her daughter, Chloe, who wrote another of the album’s songs, “Can I Trust Your Arms.” The set also includes “Phenomenal Woman,” based on the Maya Angelou poem of the same name.
“Stronger Than Before” joins a set of breast cancer awareness items Hallmark will sell in 2005, all of which will also benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. For the seventh year, the retailer will offer specially designed cards to remind of the importance of early detection, as well as one of Hallmark’s signature keepsake ornaments. A gift collection made up of a pink suede journal, champagne glasses, a nightshirt, cards and other items are packaged with a framed poem titled “A Toast to Women.”
Newton-John plans to spend part of the fall on the road in the United States supporting the Hallmark release, via tour that opens Oct. 6 in Roanoke, Va.
