American Idol Season 10 star Haley Reinhart hits another one out of the park, this time covering Soundgarden in her latest Postmodern Jukebox collaboration.
Backed by a string section, percussion and a piano, Reinhart wraps her sultry vocals around every nuance ot the ’90s grunge hit “Black Hole Sun.” Wearing a black dress, the 25-year old Wheeling, Ill., native begins the song as a slow torch song, dropping her vocals to her lower register before the tempo picks up mid-song, adding in some scatting and one big note before a big finish.
This is Reinhart’s eighth time teaming up with PMJ. She previously delivered jazzy renditions of Radiohead’s “Creep,” The Cardigans‘ “Lovefool,” Britney Spears‘ “Oops!…I Did It Again” and The White Stripes‘ “Seven Nation Army.”
She is currently on the road supporting her new album, Better. She will appear Sunday night (June 26) at Asbury Park’s House of Independents.
Reinhart and PMJ’s cover of “Black Hole Sun” is now available on iTunes.
