Two weeks after Kings of Leon took on Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” for BBC’s Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the girls of HAIM lent a rock slant to another pop single, Miley Cyrus’ No. 1 hit “Wrecking Ball.” Watch below:
At first, Este, Daniella and Alana Haim flip the formula of Cyrus’ smash on its head: instead of ratcheting up the intensity on the chorus, HAIM isolates a guitar riff and amplifies the vulnerability of the vocals. Eventually, a snapping drum pattern and a more forceful wailing adorn the hook, and the bridge is pure “wah-wah” swagger.
As Cyrus’ second “Bangerz” single spends a second week atop the Hot 100 chart, HAIM is readying the release of its debut album “Days Are Gone” for this Monday (Sept. 30). Click here to watch Cyrus debut “Wrecking Ball” live at the iHeartRadio Music Festival Village last Saturday.
