British independent label Gut Records has struck an agreement to release a three-track recording which underpins a multi-media campaign against gun culture.
Slated for a Sept. 12, the EP is the initiative of south London organization Urban Concept’s “Don’t Trigger” campaign. Pinnacle Distribution will issue “Don’t Trigger” in the United Kingdom.
London’s mayor Ken Livingstone has been a leading advocate of the project. Livingstone and his equalities and policing policy adviser Lee Jasper took the unusual step of funding and supporting the record. Both men feature in the video of the lead track “Why,” which also features visuals and dialog from people whose relatives were victims of gun crime in Britain. “Why” is an R&B track featuring female group Soul Deep U.K.
“Everyone needs to show their support for this project because of its profound message,” says Jasper.
Relatives of gun violence victims who provide sound bites on the record include Lucy Cope, who set up the Mothers Against Guns group following the murder of her son Damian.
Following the recent terrorist bombings in London, the anti-violence lyrics has found renewed resonance with the British public, comments MAG vice chair Michelle Forbes.
