She might be wearing head-to-toe Christian Dior for Elle magazine’s June cover story, but Lorde’s graffiti-laden Gucci tank top in the accompanying editorial spread is sure to satisfy your sartorial taste–or at least Rihanna’s.
During weekend one of Coachella, Bad Gal RiRi first wore the Italian brand’s printed cotton jersey tank ($450, gucci.com) with the phrase “Common Sense Is Not That Common” written across the front. Being the style innovator that she is, Rihanna elevated the traditional festival essentials by rocking a diamond-encrusted Gucci bodysuit — plus matching face mask — with a pair of black Fenty X Puma platform kicks.

Lorde’s version which says “I want to go back to believing a story” and is from the brand’s FW-17 collaboration with Coco Capitán ($450, gucci.com) is certainly more wearable than Rihanna’s. However, the “Greenlight” singer’s full-look has amped up elements as well, including a pair of black mesh, crystal embroidered leggings ($3,980, gucci.com), a white gold and diamond necklace from Cartier ($6,750, cartier.com) and silver and white gold diamond rings from David Yurman ($1,200 each) and Tiffany & Co. ($1,600).
During the interview, the two-time Grammy winner touched on the what she considers an overly saturated music scene in Los Angeles. “Everyone’s making music in L.A. now — which is great if you aren’t the shyest, most introverted nerd. I found it a little too social. I made my first record in New Zealand with very little discourse — I was just my own unit. In L.A., it’s very, ‘Oh, what project are you working on?’ I was like, ‘I need to be out of this.'”

The singer further explains that she’s “passionate” about going home because it helps keep her grounded. “Most of my friends are people I knew before I was famous. I’m very thankful that I never feel like the smartest person in the room, or the coolest person in the room, or the funniest. When I’m there, I’m just there. People forget that I’ve done anything. They say, ‘Ella’s this weird old dowager with a nice house.'”
