Disney’s teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has become the biggest teaser trailer debut in Marvel Studio’s theatrical history and Marvel’s second most-viewed trailer after Captain America: Civil War.
The teaser for Guardians Vol. 2, which debuted at Brazil Comic Con then online, shows a reunited cast with plenty of inappropriate behavior on a personal and a galactic scale from the galaxy’s favorite outlaws while also serving up plenty of Baby Groot cuteness.
The trailer was viewed 81 million times online in 24 hours. That number is 30 million higher than the first teaser, a sneak peek that Disney and Marvel launched prior the release of Marvel’s latest offering, Doctor Strange.
Civil War holds the record for most viewed Marvel trailer – 94 million views in 24 hours – but there is time for Guardians Vol. 2 to beat it when the actual trailer is released.
As benchmarks in Marvel fan fervor, the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron generated 35 million views in first 24 hours and the first Guardians trailer garnered 21 million views.
Disney’s recent trailer for Beauty and the Beast holds the record for most viewed, 127.6 million times in one day, with Fifty Shades Darker (114 million views) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (112 million views) coming right after.
The new teaser will debut theatrically worldwide on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
