A musician who played saxophone with Grupo Montez de Durango was beaten outside a disco in Durango, Mexico, not shot in the head as had been previously reported, claims the group’s U.S.-based manager.
Martin Fabian tells Billboard that the duranguense group was on vacation Jan. 5 when Moisés Arellanes Fausto, a saxophonist who plays with the group in its Mexican gigs, was attacked by three men when he left a club.
“It was a fight that had nothing to do with the group,” Fabian says, adding that the musician is recovering at home.
Mexican media had quoted federal authorities as saying that Arellanes had been shot in the head.
