German rock-singer Herbert Grönemeyer picked up a brace of awards Friday night at the 6th Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2008, held at the Gasometer in Vienna.
Grönemeyer’s “12” (Groeneland/EMI) took out best international album, and his live recording “12Live” won the music-DVD category.
Pink’s “Dear Mr. President” (LaFace) won for best international single.
Austrian musician Kurt Hauenstein received the lifetime achievement award for his project, Supermax.
Performers on the night included Grönemeyer, Amy MacDonald, Ich+Ich, Supermax and Christina Stürmer.
Winners were chosen by a jury of 400 people from the music and media sectors.
Private TV-station Plus 3 aired the two-hour show on a one-hour delay. Some three million viewers in Austria and the neighbour countries tuned-in to the 8pm broadcast, according to organizers.
Mario Rossori, owner of the Pate Records label in Vienna, founded the ceremony in 2000 in collaboration with the local record industry.
