Always expect the unexpected at Holy Ship.
One of the January sailing’s most memorable moments arrived right after Jai Wolf wrapped his breakthrough finale “Indian Summer” on the Pool Deck, when GRiZ and ODESZA‘s horn players — Jonathan Gipaya on trumpet and Jason Cressey on trombone — launched into a surprise rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
Channeling a cruise ship Pied Piper, the saxophonist/producer led a merry band of exuberant fans into the ship’s cafeteria — where the artists delighted them with a spirited cover of Drake’s smash “Hotline Bling.” Watch below:

Following the impromptu performance, GRiZ spoke with Billboard Dance about the experience:
Where did you get the idea to do the impromptu performance?
Well, I feel like Holy Ship is a place where everyone is in the mood to lose it on some weird behavior. Holy Shippers also love the special, off-the-books, out-of-nowhere, one-of-a-kind moments. I mean, so do I. I love creating magic times. So in that spirit, I thought it would be fun to switch things up and wyle out on the sax a bit and revamp a popular and fun tune by the ever-so-famous persuader of women losing their panties, Drake.
How did it all come together?
It’s my job to make it come together! I’m that guy… the instigator.
What were your your thoughts during the performance?
This is really tight! Why don’t we do this all the time and why aren’t we playing “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” next?!
