The Recording Academy is reprising its “My Grammy Moment” contest for its 50th anniversary awards show, offering unsigned instrumentalists the chance to perform with nominees the Foo Fighters during the Feb. 10 telecast.
Starting today (Jan. 3) and until Jan. 20, musicians can upload a 60-second solo instrumental performance clip of the Foo Fighters’ Grammy-nominated song “The Pretender” to www.youtube.com/mygrammymoment.
A music industry panel will narrow the field to 45 quarter-finalists Jan. 24; the public can watch the videos and then access a voting site through the YouTube page. Public votes will narrow the field down further until the final winner is announced during the CBS telecast.
Voters can cast their ballots via YouTube until the beginning of the show, when text-message votes will be taken during the program’s first two hours.
The contest follows the segment’s debut last year, in which Robyn Troup performed with Justin Timberlake.
