Competition among the greatest musical artists is what the Grammy Awards are all about, but another sport of the telecast is to spot where the music business’ top execs are sitting in the audience.
The 2017 broadcast featured a slew of industry faces to make it to air — some with multiple appearances.
Here, the top 5 to get Grammy screen time:
5. Sir Lucian Grainge: The coveted aisle seat belonged to the chairman of Universal Music Group, which is home to such performers as Lady Gaga, The Weeknd and the publishing catalog of the late Prince.
4. Stephen Hill and Rickey Minor: The president of programming at BET Networks and the veteran musical director deftly demonstrated The Time’s “Jungle Love” dance to the delight of, well, everyone.

3. Rob Stringer: The Columbia Records chairman and incoming Sony Music CEO had to navigate a race between two of his top artists — Adele and Beyonce. No wonder he opted to be shielded in the middle of an orchestra row. But there was no hiding from Sony’s dominance on Grammy night, as the label group represented memorable performances by A Tribe Called Quest, Maren Morris and Alicia Keys and, of course, Beyonce and Adele.
2. Monte and Avery Lipman: It was hard to miss the brother duo — the former, Republic Records’ chairman and CEO and the latter, president/COO — who were positioned directly behind host James Corden during a mid-show stand-up.
1. David Massey: The Island Records chief made nearly as many cameos as Blue Ivy Carter, thanks to a Nick Jonas-adjacent spot.
And an honorable mention goes to top hitmaker Max Martin for being ejected from his chair by Corden during a bit. The Swedish producer and songwriter generally likes to stay under the radar, but sacrificed his anonymity for the sake of comedy.
