Universal Music Group International CEO Lucian Grainge has been named the most influential person on London’s music scene.
The second annual 1,000-strong, 22-category, list of “London’s Most Influential People” is compiled by London-based daily newspaper the Evening Standard and published today (Oct. 7). The top five names in the music category were completed by Royal Opera House music director Antonio Pappano, 19 Entertainment CEO Simon Fuller, Coldplay and BBC Radio 3 controller/director of the BBC Proms Roger Wright.
As well as Coldplay, newcomers on the list included Amy Winehouse, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Dizzee Rascal, MySpace U.K. managing director Travis Katz and Live Nation U.K. president Paul Latham. Madonna, Mark Ronson, Damon Albarn, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney all appeared for the second year running.
The newspaper published an overall “Top 50” list compiled from all 22 categories. Although Simon Cowell appears higher than Grainge on that list, the Evening Standard included him primarily on the basis of his TV performances and productions, rather than his role as head of his Syco imprint.
The “Influentials” list is compiled using the Evening Standard’s own panel of specialist contributors.
