Southern jam rockers Gov’t Mule are celebrating their 20th anniversary and paying tribute to the legendary Pink Floyd with a brand-new covers album. Billboard is excited to present an exclusive sampling of Dark Side of the Mule.

“I still remember the first time I heard ‘Time,'” vocalist-guitarist Warren Haynes says. “It knocked me out. I had never heard anything like it, and when the time came to work on the songs for this show, I knew it had to be included on the set list.”
The concert was recorded Halloween night in 2008 at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre. The recording is available in three different formats for Mule fans: a standard CD, a deluxe version (three CD/one DVD package of the entire three-hour performance), and a double vinyl version. It all comes out Dec. 15 on Evil Teen Records.
It’s the second of three special releases to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary. First, Gov’t Mule released Stoned Side of the Mule: Volume 1, on Nov. 28, featuring Rolling Stones covers. And next up, March 2015 sees the release of Dub Side of the Mule, a collection of reggae songs featuring Toots Hibbert of Toots & the Maytals.
But that’s not all: On Jan. 27, 2015, fans will finally get the long-awaited SCO-MULE album, which features a 1999 concert collaboration between the Mule (then featuring featuring original bass player, the late Allen Woody, along with keyboardist Dr. Dan Matrazzo) and jazz guitar great John Scofield.
On Feb. 18, Gov’t Mule and Scofield embark on a tour to celebrate the release, beginning with a show at Seattle’s Moore Theatre.
