Organizers of the Governors Ball 2016 music festival on Randall’s Island Park in New York have canceled day three (Sunday, June 5) over severe weather concerns.
“Sunday, June 5th of Gov Ball 2016 has officially been cancelled, due to severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area. The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first,” reads a statement on the fest’s website. “We are just as devastated as you.”
The third day of Gov Ball 2016 was scheduled to feature headliners Kanye West, Prophets of Rage, Death Cab for Cutie, Joey Bada$$, Eagles of Death Metal, Courtney Barnett and others. With West’s headlining Sunday slot at Gov Ball canceled, might he make a surprise appearance at Hot 97 Summer Jam Sunday night instead?
Gov Ball organizers say that ticket refunds are expected to be processed within three weeks. See further info about ticket refunds here.
In a similar move, authorities in western Germany pulled the plug on the popular Rock am Ring festival Sunday because of a storm warning, the Associated Press reports. Scores of people were injured at the site near Mendig when lightning and heavy rain struck the festival late Friday. The German Red Cross said 72 people were hospitalized.
