We knew animated rockers the Gorillaz were working on their fifth album, but now we finally have some concrete proof. The cartoon band, formed in 1998 by animator Jamie Hewlett and Blur singer Damon Albarn, planned to enter the studio last fall to work on the follow-up to the 2010 iPad album The Fall.

On Monday (April 11), Hewlett posted two short videos: one a silent double-time clip showing some hectic recording sessions and the other featuring a small slice of music that will have to sate fans’ appetites until more concrete news is available about a possible release date.
In the second clip, producer and Kanye West collaborator Anthony “Twilite Tone” Khan can be seen working on a soulful clip with singer Liam Bailey, who hinted at the collabo last month.

In the meantime, Hewlett continues to post new images of the group’s clearly aging animated members.
