Another day, another famous birthday, and Google Doodle knows best on how to celebrate historical figures through the search engines’ cheeky artworks that take over the home page day-to-day.
The Google Doodle for Jan. 25 gives some insight into the esteemed 20th century literary figure Virginia Woolf. Born into an affluent family in London, England in 1882, Woolf rose to prominence in the early 1900s. She was one of the original modernists in literature. She was praised for her lyrical prose, stream of consciousness writing, and narrative device. Woolf’s works became a central catalyst in inspiring the feminist movement during the 1970s. Her top writings include A Room of One’s Own, Orlando, Mrs Dalloway, and To the Lighthouse.
The doodle, which was created by London-based artist Louise Pomeroy, sees Woolf dead center in a picture frame, her sleek silhouette surrounded by warm, pink and brown autumn leaves falling from the sky. Woolf dons a tight ponytail, a sharp black blazer, and a pink blouse that matches the subtle hew of the leaves.
