Goo Goo Dolls lead singer John Rzeznik knew he was ready for a sonic change when it came time to begin writing songs for their new album, “Magnetic” (out now). The veteran group’s last album “Something for the Rest of Us” was a bit of a downer content-wise.
“It was a really dark kind of record,” Rzeznik said a few weeks back in the Billboard studio for a Q&A with the band and two solo acoustic performances. “I wanted to enjoy myself and have fun.”
“Magnetic” reflects just that; especially lead single “Rebel Beat,” which Rzeznik performed along with “Come to Me.” In the Q&A find out why the cuts are special to John.
The Dolls just wrapped up rehearsing for their tour with Matchbox Twenty. The guys were “holed up in Connecticut for a week,” says band mate Robby Takac, ironing out the set list. It kicked off last night (June 25) at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire and will be going strong nationally through mid August.
