Too much hustle, too many sweet passes, too much Kevin Durant. The Golden State Warriors had too much of everything as the franchise beat Cleveland Cavaliers in game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals to secure its second title in three campaigns.
The Dubs secured the title on the floor of its own raucous Oracle Arena with another fine all-round team performance. Durant, a blockbuster offseason signing for the Warriors, was the difference between both teams as he went on a tear scoring more than 30 points in each Finals contest, and ultimately scooping the Finals MVP.
With Monday night’s 129-120 result, the Warriors and Cavs complete a trilogy of Finals series which will surely be remembered as the league’s supreme modern-day rivalry. For the Warriors, it’s the fifth title in franchise history and another building block to its dynasty.
Many of the music industry’s finest tuned into the series and, at its conclusion, gave a shout-out to the victors and to LeBron James’ losing squad.
Tonight Mama Durant became President.
