“No Soy Un Pájaro” (“I’m Not a Bird”) is the new Gloria Trevi song and theme of the telenovela “Libre Para Amarte” (“Free to Love You”) on Televisa, which airs in Mexico beginning June 17. It’s the singer’s debut on a telenovela soundtrack.
Additionally, before closing the 2013 Acapulco Festival on June 2, the Mexican star told Billboard that she is currently an independent artist. As it stands now, her new album, “De Película” (“Out of a Movie”),” will not be released by her former label Universal Music Latin.
“The contract is over and I am in conversations with various labels including [Universal],” Trevi said. “I am free at this time.”
“De Película” is scheduled for release in September, depending on the terms of a new contract. The artist says she would like to remain independent, with distribution through a major label.
According to a statement from Universal Music Latin Entertainment, the company has a stake in the new album and is negotiating with Trevi to “continue our successful relationship.”
Lupillo Rivera, the Regional Mexican singer and brother of the late Jenni Rivera, appears in some episodes of the telenovela that features Trevi’s music. Trevi noted that Rivera had joined her in listening to a banda version of “No Soy un Pájaro”.
“He said it was very good and that was very encouraging considering he is an expert in the genre,” Trevi said.
Trevi will be on tour this month in the United States, with dates in San Jose (June 14), Los Angeles (June 15) and Chicago (June 28-29).
