Ana Villafañe, a relative newcomer from Miami, will make her Broadway debut as Gloria alongside Josh Segarra as Emilio Estefan. The announcement was made in tandem with tickets going on sale April 13 for the Nov. 5 Broadway premiere of the show.
The cast will also feature Drama Desk Award winner Andréa Burns (In The Heights) as Gloria Fajardo (Gloria’s mother), Alma Cuervo (Beauty and the Beast) as Consuelo (Gloria’s grandmother), Alexandria Suarez as Little Gloria and Noah Johnston as little Emilio. Members of the Estefan’s original band, The Miami Sound Machine, will play as part of the orchestra.
Production of On Your Feet! was announced last year by James L. Nederlander, Estefan Enterprises and Bernie Yuman, and tickets are now on sale for the production, which is opening on Broadway Nov. 5. Previews will start October 5 at the Marquis Theatre in New York.
On Your Feet! is based on the life story of the Estefans, from their beginnings in Cuba to their arrival in the U.S., and, of course, their rise to fame. Music numbers will include many of the hits that continue to be played today, among them “Conga” and “Rhythm’s Gonna Get You.”
The musical is directed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray), choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, “Memphis), and with a book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman film).
