The 2011 Glastonbury festival has sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.
Tickets for next year’s U.K. event, due to be held June 22 to 26 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, went on sale 9am BST yesterday morning (Oct. 3) and sold out within four hours, according to organizers who posted a message on the festival’s official web site yesterday afternoon announcing that all the tickets had gone.
According to organizers, tickets sold out eight hours quicker than the 2010 event, which was headlined by Gorillaz, Muse, Scissor Sisters and Stevie Wonder.
The line-up for the 2011 Glastonbury is yet to be announced, although U2 is among the acts heavily tipped to headline after they were forced to pull out of this year’s event following Bono’s emergency back surgery. The band’s current 360 tour is set to run until July 23 next year, when it wraps at the TCF Bank Stadium, Minneapolis.
Glastonbury has a site capacity of 177,500 with approx 140,000 tickets available for public sale.
A three-day pass for the event, excluding booking fee and delivery, costs £195 ($308.90), up £10 ($15.84) from 2010. Purchasers were obliged to register in advance and could pay a £50 ($79.20) deposit for each ticket with the balance to be settled by April 2011, or pay outright.
In line with previous years, fans who were unable to buy a ticket first time around will get another chance when a small selection of ticket cancellations go on public re-sale in Spring 2011.
