Madonna and Janelle Monáe were among the music stars awarded at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which took place Saturday (May 4) at the Hilton Midtown in New York.
The event was hosted by drag star Shangela and presenters included Sarah Jessica Parker, Anderson Cooper, Rosie O’Donnell, Mykki Blanco, Adam Rippon, and Lilly Singh.
Madonna received the Advocate for Change Award and Monáe took home outstanding music artist. On March 28, GLAAD honored Beyonce and JAY-Z with the Vanguard Award in Los Angeles.
“Over the past 30 years, images in media have evolved to celebrate the unique and dynamic stories of LGBTQ people and accelerate acceptance for the LGBTQ community,” GLAAD CEO/president Sarah Kate Ellis said.
“This year’s award recipients like Pose and Don Lemon showcase what it means to move the needle forward, as they bring diverse and critical LGBTQ stories and issues to the forefront of mainstream media.”
The 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards will air on Logo on Sunday (May 12) at 8 p.m. ET.
