Girls’ Generation is bringing the heat to the East Coast this summer. Billboard is exclusively revealing that the K-pop phenoms will perform for the first-ever New York date of KCON, the annual Los Angeles-based festival dedicated to all things Korean pop culture.
Alongside a slew of still-to-be-revealed acts, the girl group will meet their fans and take the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., after a day-long convention that includes artist meet-and-greets, panels, workshops, food trucks and more.
One of the most well-known K-pop acts in the U.S., Girls’ Generation boast one of the highest-charting Korean albums ever after last year’s Mr.Mr. EP hit No. 110 on the Billboard 200. The group also own a YouTube Music Award and just last month earned the most-viewed K-pop video in America and around the world on YouTube for “Catch Me If You Can.”
Despite a high international profile, the group hasn’t performed in New York since 2011’s SMTown Live concert at Madison Square Garden.
KCON will announce more artists for the 2015 lineup during its weekly #KCONLiveChat (right here) at 8:30pm ET Thursday, May 21. Last week, long-running boy band Super Junior was announced as the first performer for the L.A. date.
KCON New York hits the East Coast on Aug. 8.
