When she’s not promoting in Korea or writing love songs in the Alps, Girls’ Generation member Seohyun says she’s becoming a bit of a Broadway junkie. A listen to the 23-year-old on Girls’ Generation-TTS‘ new single “Holler” proves that she’s got the pipes to own the stage.
Having already proved her skills as the lead in Korea’s Moon Embracing the Sun production this year, the Seoul native tells Billboard she’s recently “gotten more enthusiastic about learning classical music.” Now, she’s keen to play one of the iconic roles from her favorite Broadway show.
Counting down her top picks, Seohyun share her five favorite productions she’s seen recently for Billboard‘s “Gimme Five” series. From New York City staples to productions just making their debuts in Korea, get a taste of what’s been inspiring her musical-theater side lately. Don’t miss her full Billboard interview with the Girls’ Generation-TTS band mates where the trio talks about their new EP, reality show and Seohyun waxes on writing TTS’ new song “Only U.”
5. Blood Brothers
SEOHYUN: “It’s the first musical I watched on Broadway and it inspired me to go after a theater side of my career. I want to be able to play Glinda in the future. I’m working at it, I’m learning. I’ve watched it more than 20 twenty times, literally, here in New York and elsewhere. I’ve gotten more enthusiastic about learning classical music and that’s my ultimate goal.”
