A Great Big World scored a breakout hit thanks to a fortuitous vocal collaboration: Christina Aguilera heard the duo’s single “Say Something” and was so taken with the ballad that she asked to re-record the song as a guest vocalist. A few months later, A Great Big World’s Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino were performing “Say Something” alongside Aguilera on “The Voice,” then watching the single shoot up into the Top 5 of the Hot 100 chart, remarkably changing the course of their young career as a music group.
When A Great Big World stopped by the Billboard studios last month to perform “Say Something” (sans Xtina), Axel and Vaccarino listed the five vocal collaborators that would excite them the most, now that Aguilera’s illustrious name can be checked off.
