Alt-country singer/songwriter Gillian Welch is currently in the studio hashing out her fourth solo set. The effort, which is as-yet-untitled, will likely be released by the end of the year, according to Welch’s management.
As usual, the artist is co-writing material with longtime partner David Rawlings and recording at the duo’s own Nashville studio. The new album will be the follow-up to 2003’s “Soul Journey,” which topped Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.
Welch last toured in October but performed in February with Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello and Rawlings at the Grand Ole Opry. The performance was filmed in black and white and aired earlier this month on GAC.
Known for her frequent guest appearances with other artists when they visit Nashville, Welch on Sunday dropped by to perform with Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis at the city’s Belcourt Theatre.
