Robin Gibb will become CISAC’s president, subject to a vote at the confederation’s General Assembly tomorrow (June 1).
The Bee Gees singer/songwriter, who is speaking today at CISAC’s Copyright Summit in Brussels, will be joined by Mexican director, screenwriter and producer Alfonso Cuaron, who will become vice president, as the authors society body seeks to put creators at the heart of its work.
Cuaron’s films include “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “Children of Men.”
“The appointment of these two celebrities, known the world over for their works, will amplify CISAC’s international voice,” said CISAC director general Eric Baptiste in a statement.
The move, adds Baptiste, will also give the 2.5 million authors and publishers that CISAC represents worldwide “an opportunity to draw the attention of political decision-makers and the industry to the need for the protection of authors’ rights.”
Prof. Christian Bruhn, also president of German authors society GEMA, is the outgoing CISAC president. Outgoing VP is Victor Hugo Rascon Banda.
Gibb and Cuaron’s appointments are expected to be ratified tomorrow.
