“Against the night” and “across the time,” Gesaffelstein will unleash “a truth, a sermon, a sacrifice” by means of a fall US tour. That message may not make a lot of sense, but he’s French, so we’ll let him have this one. Also, his live set at Coachella was nothing short of incredible. He took the stage covered head-to-toe in metallic makeup and stood before an obelisk painted in Vantablack. The mysterious material was developed by the UK’s Surrey NanoSystems to be one of the darkest substances known to man, absorbing up to 99.96% of visible light. if he’s gonna do stuff like that, he can do whatever he wants.
Gesaffelstein will take his darker-than-dark performance on the road, but he’s not giving you a lot. So far, the tour includes 10 dates, kicking off with another festival spot at Governors Ball in late May and a handful of theater dates in November. The tour is in support of his sophomore album Hyperion, which saw the producer try his hand at pop crossovers and cinematic soundscapes alike. The album received mixed reviews, but the Coachella performance helped to tie directional loose-ends together.
Tickets for the fall tour go on sale Friday. Check the full list of tour dates and peep a fan video featuring “Viol” from the Coachella 2019 performance below.
