Leading German acts such as Die Fantastischen Vier, Max Herre, Sportfreunde Stiller and Keimzeit have donated tracks to a campaign to influence voters against the extreme right-wing.
The CD “Gemeinsam gegen Rechts” is financed and issued solely by German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder’s SPD party. The campaign intends to prevent extreme right-wing political parties from being elected to the parliament in the Sept. 18 federal elections.
The artists, their Berlin-based record label Four Music and BMG Music Publishing have waived royalties.
“With this initiative and this CD we want to reach young people in their own language and impress on them that it is not at all cool to vote for extreme right-wing parties,” comments Hartwig Masuch, managing director of BMG Music Publishing Germany.
The CDs will be distributed from Aug. 19 by the various SPD politicians throughout the country.
