As predicted last week, Gen Hoshino’s new single, “Doraemon,” soars to No. 1 on the latest Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, dated Feb. 26 to March 4. The song had created enough buzz before it was actually released to debut in the top 20 six weeks ago, and takes the top spot at last after the physical single went on sale last Wednesday (Feb. 28).
The movie theme song rises 10-1 after selling 140,318 CDs in its first week and comes in at No. 1 for four metrics of the chart’s methodology: physical sales, look-ups, radio airplay and Twitter (second week in a row). It also performed well in other metrics, coming in at No. 2 for downloads and streaming as well as No. 3 for video views.
Kenshi Yonezu’s “Lemon” logs a third week at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100. The TV series theme song is still the most-downloaded track for the third consecutive week, and after the release of the official music video Feb. 26, it’s also become the most-viewed video as well. The video was played 9,543,639 times during the chart week, which is more than 6 million more than the song at No. 2 for video views, Masaki Suda‘s “Sayonara Elegy” (viewed 3,288,989 times).
“Sayonara Elegy” rises a notch to No. 3 this week, ruling streaming for the second week in a row and coming in at No. 3 for downloads, No. 2 for video views, No. 5 for look-ups, and also faring relatively well in radio (No. 30) and physical sales (No. 30).
The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and audio streams from Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOK, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, Recochoku provided by Gfk Japan, as well as streaming counts based on lyrics displayed on PetitLyrics.
