You know that thing where you and all your friends meet up in the middle of the night to execute some lithe, flawless choreography and then lie down in the open road? Okay, maybe you don’t, and perhaps it’s not exactly good life advice, but it does make for an enveloping visual experience in the new “2AM” clip from Gavin Turek. Produced by Chris Hartz, the effortlessly lush and low-key funky song hails from her upcoming debut album, set for early 2020, while the video comes courtesy producer Lena Waithe (as part of her teaming up with AT&T Hello Lab Mentorship program) and director Tiffany Johnson.
The clip follows Turek and her friends as they strut down a lonely, late-night Los Angeles street. Eventually, their moves become more complicated, as does the camerawork from Johnson – which includes a Busby Berkeley-esque overhead shot. Coincidentally, just in time for the upcoming Little Mermaid live action remake, Turek is rocking a seashell top.
“I couldn’t help but be inspired by this house party I went to in L.A.,” says Turek of the song. “It was probably past 2AM and we were dancing and laughing and just basking in the energy of being free of typical worries.”
