GASHI, the Brooklyn-based, Kosovo-bred rapper, goes for old rap video nostalgia in his visuals for “Used to Be.”
The video, which dropped Friday, features GASHI and a deep crew of friends wreaking havoc across New York, including a notable cameo for Canal Street’s Popular Jewelry, a store where rappers’ photos on the wall — among them Wu-Tang Clan, Travis Scott and A$AP Rocky — stand as a symbolic rite of passage in the city.
As for the beat, GASHI has producer Ben Billions to thank. Billions is responsible for everything from Beyoncé’s “6 Inch” to Future’s “Low Life.” In a press release, GASHI says he’s “wanted to work with [Ben Billions] for a while. He’s produced some of my favorite records.”
