After working for years as a composer of film music, the Lithuanian DJ and producer Mindaugas Lapinskis embarked on a techno career in 2014. He chose the name Gardens of God for his new project. “”Every track (or song) has its mood, mystic places and secrets,” he explained in a 2014 interview. “It’s like a garden with its own spirits and souls.”
He’s released a handful of EPs in the last two years, including several on Maceo Plex’s Ellum label. But he’s stepping out on his own on Friday, inaugurating his own label, Sodai, with the River/Ghost EP. “River,” a methodical, architecturally impressive techno cut, is premiering today exclusively on Billboard Dance.
“I’m never happy with my tracks when they’re finished,” Lapinskis notes. “It’s kind of perfectionism or idealism I guess. But this EP makes me feel proud and happy as it reflects the vibe and the spirit of what I want to say, to show and to play.”
Listen below, and look for River/Ghost on Sodai on Sept. 23. You can also catch Gardens of God on a short European tour; see those dates below.
