Ever since Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros hit it big with “Home” in 2009, distant cries of “hey” and upbeat folk-pop rhythms have been a sure sign of marketability. It’s a trend that’s lasted a decade, and it’s on full display on “Bones,” the new collaboration between dance-pop duo Galantis and “Counting Stars” five-piece OneRepublic.
It’s the earthiest tune in Galantis’ catalog so far, but it’s still got rainbow-tinted synths weaved in and out of those acoustic guitar strums and kit-drum rhythms. It’s definitely designed as a radio-friendly sing-along, and it’s got a rosy lyrical message with an ooey-gooey, lovey-dovey center.
“Bones” is not an unfamiliar sound, but one gets the feeling it’s supposed to be immediately comfortable. It’s out now on Atlantic. Listen to it below.
