f(x)’s Amber took to social media on Friday (Oct. 20) to join the #MeToo movement, opening up about sexual harassment that she’s faced and seen around her, before putting out a call for action.
The L.A.-born K-pop star shared “#MeToo” on Twitter and Instagram, writing that “It,” referring to sexual harassment and assault, “happens everywhere, even here. I want to add my voice as well.”
#MeToo is a viral trend where the victims of sexual harassment and abuse raise awareness to the prevalence of the widespread reach of these societal ills. A member of the experimental K-pop girl group f(x), Amber is the most prominent Korean artist to join the hashtag movement.
“Not only from what I have experienced but also from what I have seen my friends and loved ones have to go through…” continued the singer. “And because it’s so common, I hate to say it.. the feelings become so numb and we all felt that we just had to ‘deal with it.'”
Amber ended with a call to action, saying, “As the human race, let’s continue to show love, compassion and respect towards one another.”
The posting comes the same week she took on naysayers in a video on her YouTube channel, responding to hate comments about her career and her androgynous appearance with a satirical video titled “Where Is My Chest?”
Amber recently collaborated with Superfruit on “Fantasy.”
