For the first time in over a year, two of f(x)’s members teamed up for a new song together.
Luna and Amber of the K-pop girl group released their new progressive house track “Lower” on Friday (Jan. 5), over a year since their last collaborative track “Heartbeat” was released in October 2016. Featuring powerful synths and dreamy vocals that showcase the versatility of the two singers, the sultry tune serves as the first 2018 track of the weekly release project SM Station, from their entertainment agency SM Entertainment.
The song’s primarily black-and-white music video features the pair performing aggressively sensual choreography and alternatively roaming around Seoul at night. Amber had a hand in directing and editing the video for “Lower”; she also directed f(x)’s 2016 music video “All Mine” for Station.
Amber and Luna debuted as two-fifths of f(x) under SM Entertainment in 2009. Over the years, the girl group, which has since become a quartet, has proved to be one of the most experimental K-pop acts, most recently through releases like “Rum Pum Pum,” “Red Light” and “4 Walls.”
Though f(x) hasn’t released any new music as a group since “All Mine,” and they haven’t put out a new album since 2015’s 4 Walls, this isn’t the first time Amber and Luna have worked together on a track: the duo teamed up with a variety of other artists for two other electro-dance tracks, “Wave” and “Heartbeat,” in 2016.
2017 was relatively quiet for the pair, though both Luna and Amber collaborated with several artists. The former released “Hitmaker” with Highlight’s Junhyung and Jung Hyung Don as well as “Honey Bee” with EXID’s Hani and Mamamoo’s Solar, while Amber appeared on Superfruit’s “Fantasy” and Shannon’s “Love Don’t Hurt.”
