Kanye West and Drake may have made it okay to be emotional as an MC, but Future is the man with the mumble who started a movement. He may he hard to understand at times, but his machine-gun style delivery matched with his Codeine-drip croon has spawned a million imitators, and some of them have gone on to be huge radio players themselves.
From the moment he dropped 2012’s Pluto to his most recent release Future, and surely even onto his forthcoming immediate follow-up HNDRXX (because Future drops two albums in a month and that is normal for him), he’s been an inspiration to MCs around the world. He’s been an inspiration to dance DJs as well. Name a time you went to a trap show and didn’t hear a Future jam get dropped. I’ll wait.
In honor of one of the hardest-working men in the game, Billboard Dance shares 7 of the best Future song remixes. Enjoy.
Future – “Move That Dope” (Graves Remix)
These are some super classy future vibes. It’s pretty much straight up R&B circa when your parents made you. It’s super smooth with the melody, but the beat keeps things dirty, and of course, the vocal ensures that any baby you make to this soundtrack will be a gangster.
Future – “Turn on the Lights” (Swizzymack Remix)
This was Future’s breakout hit and remains one of my favorite Future songs of all time. Swizzymack’s super hyphy #PhillyClub edit is absolutely the jam. It’s got all these weird 8-bit noises, for which I am a total sucker, and it’s got a ballin’ lightning-speed rhythm that makes me wanna jump out of my seat and attack the dance floor. Sorry if I smack your girl in the process.
Future – “Rich $ex” (Mithril Remix)
I love the way Mithril turns this tune from a leaned out sex anthem into a colorful, post-internet R&B jam. It’s got dramatic and intimate moments, and in the end, I think it makes the song a lot catchier. That fade out, too.
Future – “Honest” (SK Austen Remix)
This is one of my favorite remixes on the whole list. Ive literally never imagined Future as a deep house vocalist, and yet now I can’t help wondering why he doesn’t do it professionally. This is one dank poolside jam. Definitely play it at your next beach day and watch your friends jaws drop when the lyric sample comes in.
Future Feat. The Weeknd – “Low Life” (Everlake Remix)
This is one of Future’s most sensual hits, and that isn’t entirely the fault of The Weeknd. The beat itself is just too sexy, and Everlake does a great job of turning it up without losing the slinky, bedroomy qualities that first made me fall in love.
Future – “Shit” (Salva Remix)
Future is one of the hardest rappers on the block, and his beats are even harder. Salva somehow managed to beast-mode on what was already a monster of a tune. It’s kind of like trap hardstyle, in that the down beat is a real stomper, but it’s still got plenty of bounce.
P. Reign feat. Drake & Future – “DnF” (XXYYXX Remix)
This is the sound of drunk sex, for sure. It’s slowed down, it’s a bit darker in the memory, and it feels way more sensual than it probably is. XXYYXX is all about that slowed down dark beat life, and we’re glad he put his touch on this one.
